Tapentadol is a recently discovered painkiller that is used to treat a variety of conditions where the sufferer experiences pain. It belongs to a class of medications called opioid pain medications and is often prescribed when more common painkillers have not worked. The most commonly used painkillers in the world are available over the counter, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, and are commonly known as first line medications. However, these over-the-counter medications are usually only suitable to treat mild to moderate pain, and once they do not work, doctors will tend to turn to opioids to treat more painful conditions. This medication is sold under the brand names Palexia and Nucynta among others.
